“It’s a coincidence. … No, I mean, I don’t know. I think it’s a coincidence. That’s two times. Is there another time? … No, no that’s just interesting.”Todd Phillips

I do not think neither drugs nor a slap to the face can define which one was a dream or reality. Due to the fact, a recent viral issue spotted by cinema-goers came about how the story of Arthur Fleck was actually left with a two-way endings. And Director Todd Phillips was being coy during an interview regarding The 11:11 theory.

SO let me dissect few parts:

Arthur punching out from work
His final session with a social worker.
Arthur attempts to flee in Arkham Asylum

I am beyond mind-blown and at the same time a bit disappointed. I will the reason why later on.

But also raher shook how brilliant this story weaves from the very start; when Arthur Fleck punched out until the end at Arkham Asylum with clocks on the wall constantly implying 11:11. As the story constructs, signifying after all this time it was just a psychotic’s fantasy. All that cheer to an underclass hero and character development we cherished every second is now shut and locked away.

In psychological studies, there are 4 ways of pathological developments within a person; genetics, association, environment and substance intake.

Due to his adoptive background, Arthur Fleck, does not inherit genetic illness unlike his foster mother who suffers with narcissistic personality disorder and delusions of grandiose. Therefore, from his abused childhood, malnourished and hardships growing up seems to be meshed up by ASSOCIATION throughout his lifetime experience forming a similar illness like his mother.

Not convinced yet? Here’s another one

I did mentioned I was mind-blown but at the same time a bit disappointed? Disappointed how Joaquin Phoenix portrayed Joker with a prestigious leveled pedestal as the timeless, Heath Ledger, but he is not the one to face the upcoming Batman on the rise of DC’s films.

But of course, I admit it was a brilliant film. So, let me put forward some reasons:

  1. Arthur Fleck’s vague background or identity led to his existential crisis which also follows up The 11:11 Theory
  2. Shows how Director Todd Phillips respects Joker’s canon:
  3. THERE IS NO TRUE JOKER ORIGINS

In conclusion, it came to mind that Joker is not a physical embodiment, yes, a killer ‘prince of crime’ green-haired clown. But rather an entity? illness entity?? A living mental illness?? Whereas, Arthur Fleck stays on a grey area. Because the real question was, who is the next Joker?
