SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS
The Differences
I was sitting down one day, and just listed out the different usage between different social media sites such as twitter, instagram etc. Till this day, i’ve been looking for a good space to just rant, or update on my life. In other words, an online diary. So, i came to learn how to make use of different platforms.

This space is where you’d meet different kinds of people — those who tweet lyrics, those who tweet quotes, those who rant every second, those who update on their whereabouts, those fangirls who spam and those who disappear and reappear out of the blue. Technically, it is the only space where you can spam, and get away with. This isnt really a space that i would rant about my life or problems, considering i have too many friends following now thus the lack of privacy. However, there are many who creates a separate private twitter account where only selected people can follow and read their more personal tweets. The downside of this social site is, it is quite unhealthy. The things posted here can be quite inappropriate and i personally dislike their shortcuts which causes one to accidentally follow strangers on twitter or accidentally favourite tweets while stalking. The only reason i chose to stay — fast news updates (considering i do not watch the news neither do i read the papers).

TUMBLR
This is well, it’s a place full of feelings. Where things are kept real (to a certain extent), and full of emotions, truth and reality checks. Recently — two days ago— i’ve re-created a new tumblr account! My first account was back in 2009, and i treated it as a blog, definitely full of immature content (glad it is gone!). The reason i decided to create a new one is because i realised, it is a good space to just post short updates, on how i’m feeling, what happened in the day, just pour my feelings without having the whole world to read it. Plus, it is full of pictures (of food and celebrities and things i love), quotes, music etc. However, sometimes people take tumblr too far, they think whatever they see on tumblr is real life. No darlings, there is no such thing as prince charming. (trying to figure out how to explain my point but, i cant so i hope you can understand). Either way, tumblr is definitely a great platform! ☺

Wordpress
This is a just like blogspot — but cooler. Technically, you can use this site in different ways. Blog about your life, music blog, food blog, just anything! I have a wordpress website myself, and i treated it as a space to share about the music i love, the cafes i visit etc. Nothing about personal life, but just general things that can be shared. Definitely a good platform i would recommend if anyone wants to blog. Easy to use as well! And, well, if you would want to treat it as a ranting space, this would definitely be a recommended site. You can write as looooonggg as you want, a composition even if you must! (Now this reminds me — i should update my wordpress)

I would say, this is one of the most used applications now. A perfect space to share photos (well, only photos). This is where you can see people who treat it as a space to share their photography, those who post only selfies, those who dont reveal their faces, those who only post square photos and dont believe in collages, and those who post just about anything. Have an iPhone? Then your photos are definitely better! What i love is that, you can definitely see people’s personality and style just by looking at their photos — how they edit them, how they take their pictures etc. I like to post pictures with only people or sceneries, i dont quite enjoy posting pictures of…..a mug on a blanket. Seriously guys.

VSCO
Not many people use this space as a “social media platform”. Many, including myself, only use this app to edit my photos. However, those who are in love in photography would use it as a space to share their photos. A cooler, and more professional space for photography — my opinion only. I am not one who is passionate about photography thus i cant say much. But definitely love this app to edit my photos.

MEDIUM
This isnt a popular site, you can tell by just googling. This is because, i believe that this space is most appropriate for those who love to read and write, not about personal life but real stories, politics etc. And i am one of those, who treat this as a space to write on topics — whichever that comes to mind. But i like how this space allows people to write about politics or anything professional. Still new to this space, and i rarely update here because i would only want to write when i really have a topic to write about. And definitely, a good space to write as long as you want, easy to navigate and use, very simple and plain — just the way i like it. I love how they’d write “6 min read” or “4 min read” just to warn the readers on the length of the story. Super cute. Hope noone finds my medium tho, because well, extremely personal things would be written on.
Technically, what i like about twitter and instagram is they have “privacy” options. The rest — no privacy options. So you either just shut up and dont tell people or you only let a selected few know. But then again, anything can be found. If you’d really want good privacy, get a real, hardcopy diary then. However, the reason people post online is because — easy to type, and they would want some people to read, so it isnt like they are talking to themselves. They want to let it out to people and be heard. Maybe in return, they would want advices. Whatever i explained above, how i described each platform is just how i see them, my own opinions. So if you see them differently, it isnt wrong. To each his own. Just remember one thing, don't ever, ever, embarass your family online.
