365 Days of Python: Day #20 — Paced Progress
If you are in the process of learning something new, it is important to avoid setting unreachable goals. Setting these kinds of goals lead to future feelings of disappointment and discouragement.
Believe me, I have succumbed to the temptation of setting far-reaching goals before. Do you want to know what happened to me? I got smacked in the face by the cold hand of reality.
Reality is sometimes a hard truth to accept. You can write a goal down on paper and have it appear entirely feasible. Then, when you set out to start achieving that goal, you begin to realize just how unattainable it is.
The impossibility of a goal is not always tied to a characteristic of the goal itself. It might be a result of the unrealistic parameters set for that goal.
For example, consider the goal of running a marathon. If you give yourself only 30 days to train for it, then you will more than likely fail. However, if you give yourself enough time to get in shape, adjust your diet, and practice your pacing, then you will have a much better chance of completing the grueling 26.2 miles.
Just by giving yourself more time, a seemingly impossible goal can become possible.
