365 Days of Python: Day #44 — Heroic Heights
On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner jumped from a towering height of 24 miles above the Earth. For reference, commercial airplanes fly between six and eight miles above sea level.
During his free fall, he broke the sound barrier (which occurs after 760 mph) by traveling a maximum free fall speed of 843.6 mph. To further put his maximum free fall speed in perspective, consider that a commercial airplane travels around 550 mph. Therefore, Felix Baumgartner was traveling 1.5 times faster than a commercial airplane during his descent.
In case you are curious what a 10 minute skydiving experience looks, here is a link to a video of his historic jump.

Closing Thoughts
To be honest, I have always hated heights and do not see myself overcoming that attitude towards them.
In spite of that, I actually enjoy the views that can be seen from heights; however, I do not enjoy imagining what that view would look like if I was free falling above it.
