Nothing is worse than suffering through a long day of work and getting stuck in traffic on your way home.

Why is traffic a thing?

Traffic can be caused by multiple factors. It can be caused by car accidents further up the road, congested roads, and inefficient (or broken) traffic light sequences.

A lesser-known factor is the design (and upkeep) of the roads themselves. Since the 1960s, U.S. infrastructure has been neglected, and the public investment in it has actually fallen by more than 40 percent since then. Therefore, roads have been steadily worsening due to this neglect, and that worsening can lead to an increase in car accidents.

Is traffic solvable?

In theory, yes. However, it is extremely difficult to not only improve roads but also change how people drive. Humans do not like wasting time, and in getting from Point A to Point B, some people like to get there faster than others. In turn, those people drive riskier creating an increased risk of car accidents occurring.

Nevertheless, the following are some possible solutions to solving the age-old problem of traffic:

  • Better public transportation systems
  • Alternative routes to the same destination
