The Place To Be

The most perfect place in the world is accessible! La Jolla California located just outside of San Diego, is the place to be. Not only is it a great vacation spot with many fun tourist attractions, but also an amazing place to live. Its a much dreamier California town compared to L.A, San Francisco, or staying right in San Diego, which can be very crowded, and less beach more city. After going spending just one day in La Jolla, I was in love. So in love that I planned a second trip just do I could explore and enjoy it even more!

First we will talk about some of my favorite, more touristy, activities and places to be in La Jolla. The best area to stay in would be La Jolla Shores i the adorable and a little less touristy part of the town. It has the best ice cream shop Scoops, and many nice restaurants or cute surf shops. Down this block you can find rental shops that have kayak tours, surf rental gear or lessons, and snorkling/scuba diving excursions. For housing, if you want a simple hotel, fairly inexpensive, and right on the beach, I would suggest La Jolla Shores Hotel. A little older but cute and directly on a beach. It is a public beach but its directly in La Jolla shores, and take a nice stroll down to the right of the beach and it becomes open and empty with beautiful houses to admire. My preferred way of housing would be renting/VRBO, a little apartment or condo. You get the true feel of a local and there are many to choose from considering its a California beach town.

More into central La Jolla which is about a 5–10 minute drive from the Shores, you can also find rentals, and a few nice hotels, but its a little more crowded and not beach accessible. This area which on a map sticks more out into the ocean, has many popular shopping stores, such as Lulu Lemon, Tommy Bahamas, Gucci, Francesca's, etc. There are many great dinning options. My favorite would be a more upscale seafood restaurant called Herringbone. There are some more casual Mexican food options, and several great brewery's, as well as some cute ice cream shops or morning coffee houses. Right on the peak of La Jolla you can go to a cliff and walk right out onto it and see sea lions! While many don’t touch the creatures your right there next to them with no restrictions! Not only that but if you do your research you can find many nice hiking spots near La Jolla. A fun one is the famous Pikes peak with many incredible views.

The Weather in La Jolla, differs when you go, but almost always stays above 60 degrees. The summer can be between 90–80’s, fall 80–70’s, winter 70–60’s, then spring is a nice 80–70’s. The water isn’t always just hot but adjusts with the seasons. At nights during fall, winter, and spring, it can become chilly once the sun goes down so pack light layers. The citizens are friendly, all very chill and either younger adults, or older retired couples. There aren’t many families, but considering the cost of living in La Jolla, its understandable. La Jollas one downfall would have to be the cost. It’s a very populated area with extremely high housing. For example, a simple studio apartment with 1 bath, might be $1,200-$2,000 a month. Or a $500,000 house, with 4–5 bedrooms and 2–3 baths here in Olathe, would double to $1 million or more considering its proximity to a beach.

Overall, La Jolla California is a dream, whether living there, or vacationing I would highly suggest giving it consideration. Do your research, find out what you’d like to see and explore, or show up ready to wander around!
