Buddy Harrelson.

Shortstop Buddy Harrelson, who led the Major League Baseball (MLB) New York Mets to their first championship, passed away on the 12th (Korean time) after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was 79 years old.

Harrelson, who led the Mets to the World Series championship in 1969, was the best shortstop ever,” Mets owner Stephen Cohen said in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to his family.”

Previously, Harrelson was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016 and made public his battle with the disease two years later.

Harrelson played in MLB from 1965 to 1980, 13 of which were with the Mets.

In 1969, when the Mets won the World Series, Harrelson played as the starting shortstop. In 1986, he helped the Mets win their second World Series as third base coach. 19가이드03
