A few months ago I was talking about Reddit among a small gathering of friends and was completely shocked when a few of them had unfavourable things to say about the website. Last night it became clear to me what they were talking about. Reddit banned a few communities on their site that were fostering ideas of hate and harassment towards certain groups of people. In return, factions of Redditors who ragingly disagree with the website’s decision to shut these communities down took the sub-terrainian road waving banners of their freedom of speech being violated and began doing what they do best, bullying. Now, Reddit’s Frontpage is flooded with hateful memes and links directed towards their CEO Ellen Pao.
