When building a house we do our research but are we doing the same when building our lives?

With a house, we find out how much will the building materials cost, how much the labour will cost and most importantly before we start building we ensure that we have a plan. But why do we fail to plan when building our lives?

There are several things one needs to know when building a house and I will mention a few of them which I think will apply when building your life.

You need a vision and a plan on how you will build a house, which is the same when building your life. A lot of people have a vision but lack the plan, which makes it challenging to start building. A vision is one of the things that will keep you going when the process gets challenging, it will help you to keep your eyes on the prize and a plan will ensure that you account for the necessary costs. A plan is like a road map while the vision is your destination.

When building a life we need to have a budget. A budget will display how much is this house going to cost you. When building our lives we also need a budget. A budget that will show you how much is your vision going to cost you. Cost you, in a sense of how much effort should you invest, what sacrifices and compromises to be made and if needs be how much money will you need. What new skills do you have to acquire? What to unlearn and what to learn.

Let’s not forget the importance of time when building a house or a life. A time-frame will help you to make the most of your time and keep track of your progress. It will help you to stop wasting time on things and people that are not helping you in building your life.

Because no man is an island we need other people to help us. Unless if you are a builder then you can build your house by yourself, but depending on the type of house you are building you might need some help. Ask family and friends to help you build your life where they can and if possible get a mentor. You need people in your life who will contribute towards building your life. People who support and encourage you to be the best version of you.

When building a house, you wouldn’t allow people to come and break it while you busy building but why are you allowing certain people to break your life while you are trying your best to build it? Let go of people who bring nothing but toxins in your life, they will slow the process of you building your life. It’s time to detox.

Building a house is expensive so is building a life. It takes money, time, work and patience to build a house and it doesn’t happen overnight. So is building your life, but be willing to invest in it.

Be willing to invest in yourself because only you can build your life. The cost of building a house is expensive to a point where you might ask yourself if it is worth it? Even when building your life, doubts and questions will arise.

The most important thing about building your life is to start building as soon as possible. You can have a vision, have a plan, a budget and resources but if you don’t use them to build your life than what is the use?

When building a house you know that one day it will be a shelter for you and your family. As with building your life, it will one day benefit you and your family.

Building your life comes with responsibility, growth, challenges and sometimes pain but all the life lessons you acquire when building your life are priceless.

Build your life as if you were building a house:

  • Have a vision.
  • Put a plan in place.
  • Find out how much will it cost you.
  • Have a time-frame.
  • Get the necessary people to come and help you build.
  • And start building as soon as possible.

You need to start building your life as if you were building a house.
