Did I tell you about the time I fell down?
Two weeks into my new job last year,
I fell to the floor on the way to lunch.
All the way down. No passing go, no quibble or wobble.
Just good old proper downfall.
I had twisted on my left foot and it made it impossible to do anything else.
So I fell down, in front of twenty new colleagues
and began my new job in the best way I could have imagined:
Look! I am as weak as pie! I fell down and one day I will die!
(Like you.) That’s how it felt, falling down that day
in front of twenty people I barely recognised
(many of whom I’m very fond of now).
Feldenkrais talks about “the art of falling properly”,
it being something you can teach.
I would like to teach it.
Can I teach you the art of falling down?
Would you like to know the intricacies?
Let’s start by learning bows.
It’s important to bow once you stand up again.
Just do as I do.
