There is no such thing as a bad writer

That’s a line from Nathalie Goldberg’s book, Wild Mind.
I’m using it for a workshop I’m running today called
Breathing and Writing, at a yoga studio.
I’ve written her quote really big on a giant Post-It Note,
this is it here in my fat felt tip pen: “There is no such thing
as a bad writer. There is just a writer sitting at her desk
practising, writing down her thoughts and memories,
visions, stories and impressions.” Today we’re going to shine
a light on our breathing and writing practice, and let the pebble
of our practice drop deeper and deeper.
We’re going to get stupider (it helps to write to be a bit dumb).
You can’t notice stuff if you’re being way too clever.
I’m bringing my woolly Frisbee for some mindful throwing.
It’s going to be fun. I’ve written out loads of poems by Hafiz who I’m addicted to at the moment. Like this one: “A poet is someone
who can pour Light into a spoon, then raise it
to nourish your beautiful parched, holy mouth.”
