Your distinct personality shapes who you are and has an impact on everything you do, from your relationships to how you live. You might be able to explain personality, but do you know what the scientific study of personality entails

Personality psychology is one of the most well-known and widely studied areas in psychology.

Personality psychologists are interested in learning more about how personality develops and influences how we think and behave. Psychologists study how people's personalities differ as well as how they are similar. Personality problems are also assessed, diagnosed, and treated by them. Psychologists can predict how people will behave if they understand their personality.

How Personality Changes and Develops Throughout Life
One of the most well-known personality theories and also one of the most contentious is Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual development theory. According to Sigmund Freud, children go through a succession of personality phases. Libidinal energy (the power that drives all human activities) focuses on distinct erogenous zones at each level.

A person can progress to the next stage of development after successfully completing a stage. Failure at any level can lead to fixations, which can have a negative impact on an adult's personality.
