A Gift Overdue

If I could offer you a magic potion that would make you happier, healthier, more optimistic and more productive, and tell you that potion would cost nothing and will require very little effort to use, would you be interested? Let me ask the question differently. If this potion existed would you want some?Of course you would! Unfortunately, I don’t have a potion that will do these things. But each of us has something even better than a potion that will do all of those things and more. And that is gratitude.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend” ~Melody Beattie

I’ve been reading this that how gratitude improves or maintains a healthy relation and always brings positivity but I just never expressed it truly until today. Its about me writing a letter to a very dear friend of mine, Usama more commonly called as Panda. I have known him for just for years from now. We became friends very unexpectedly. He was not in my class but we were in same batches. Long story of how this friendship started and continued. Its weird that friends are always so helping but we never just thank them enough. As if its just a part of their job as a friend.

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit” ~Albert Schweitzer

Usama was there for all my ups and downs during university, he has even helped me not failing so many times. Not just that, he became that one friend whom I could rely for anything and share everything. Its actually funny that still my call log is filled with his calls mostly and my parents sometimes get suspicious that with whom I’m having such long calls. I just have to explain them every time.

Letter to my friend

While I was writing the letter, I kept thinking that how come I never did anything like this before. Because after all what friends do for us we can just be grateful and express our appreciation. They do stuff that they’re not obliged to do and they must be acknowledge for that. And also that their presence really means a lot to us. I recognized that I could not have survived university without any such relation. People need other people and to sustain those relations, gratitude is one of the things. He still hasn’t got the letter but I’m already feeling so good and I’ll be happy to share the response in my next blog.

Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you’ll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you’ll find that you have more of it.
