The Chosen One: A Deep Truth

The leader. The novice. The harbinger. The hero. Have I switched my blog into a fantasy workshop? Don’t worry because that couldn’t be further from the truth. In my opinion of course. :)

What’s better than a good story? Sitting by the camping… Staying up late reading a good book… Wherever you may be, a story the pulls you in and makes you feel something that can be a highlight of your day. But stories are just segments of another or fictitious place and time. While we are reading, listening to, or watching something we can’t truly be hurt. We can truly loose everything. However, we also can’t really achieve anything. Our world isn’t as awfully different than these stories as one may suspect. Our world may seem restrictive, but greatness may not be too extremely evasive.

Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple once said, “The crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules and have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them, because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Whether you agree with it or not, most people believe that everyone should just do the best they can with the current mold of society. I have always been inspired by those words of Steve Jobs, who is now deceased. So back to stories. In a story, especially in fantasy, there is a protagonist who is usually naïve, but overcomes his/her weaknesses to truly make an impact on the world. They go above and beyond everyone else for the common good. They however usually don’t do this themselves. Usually they are chosen by someone or the supernatural.

In our world you could say there aren’t heroes, and you would have a pretty good point. Outside of religion and theology, there hasn’t been one person that had the fate of the world resting on their shoulders. The greater good has constantly been achieved through many who would risk their lives for it. And the major difference is that in most cases these men and woman weren’t chosen, they rose up to the challenge.

But you could say some people are put into situation that they could more easily rise up and take on something greater. However, they all had a choice. Usually in a story, characters do have a choice, but the choice is usually to follow their set path or not. In real life we have to create a path, no matter how prepared someone’s life could be.

Well, before I finish I have to say that I believe everyone is chosen for something. Everyone is given something to work with no matter how small it may be. They can mold that into whatever they wish. They can make something greater out of it… You can make something greater out of it… And there is nothing, not age nor experience, that can stop you.
