The One Reason Your Social Media is Unsuccessful

Since graduating college, many of my friends have gotten married. They have planned for months on end, nailing down the ceremony and reception locations, color scheme, music, food, and all the other details that go into planning a wedding (I don’t pretend to know them all. I am not married, nor am I a wedding planner).

It’s a long and tedious process, but it is quite necessary. Could you imagine having a wedding and just hoping that it all comes together? Hoping the locations are not in use on that day, hoping the food arrives on time, and that there are enough seats for all of your guests? That would be madness, and incredibly foolish.

Unfortunately, many companies treat their social media campaigns like they are just winging a wedding. They know their business should be on social media, but they don’t know how. So they post a couple times on Facebook and hope for the best. When they see little to no interaction with those posts, they quit and say it wasn’t worth it—and move on to another social media platform, doing the same thing and getting the same results.

This is foolishness. Like most good things, it takes time to gain a large follower base that’s willing to interact with your posts. Posting a couple times and then quitting because you don’t see immediate results would be like going to college for two weeks and quitting because you didn’t already have your diploma. If you know social media will take time, you will be able to better gauge its overall success.

Now you may say, “That’s fine and all, but how do I go about doing this?” Well, luckily for you, PayProMedia has a ton of resources to help you with that! You can read Taylor Long’s post, “Social Media: Is it Worth it?” or Jimmy Elsner’s post, “What Social Media Platform is Best for Your Company?

Or maybe you are illiterate—in which case, congrats on making it this far in the article! We also have a weekly video series, Informe: A Social Media Conversation, which is directed at helping small business owners better run their social pages. Check out the video below for an example!
