I fear that our efforts to democratize information and opinion are having the opposite effect. It’s like my TV service provider and online subscriptions- I literally have 50, 000+ options yet I consume so very little of them. And I have fewer shared experiences. We’ve come a long way from when everyone watched Fonzi jump the shark. It’s the common experiences that unite a humanity and generally speaking TV media is the closest thing we have to a global town square. (Although I think this is one of the reasons I’m drawn to Medium!) A better strategy would be to wrest economic control of the the publicly traded mega media outlets to force a philosophical change in reporting standards. But who would you trust to have this kind of power?Hope I’m wrong but I don’t think this ends well.
