On our way back home from Amboseli National Park, I was not driving myself and therefore, I had decided to start a little art / photography project by documenting life along this very interesting road. It connects Nairobi with Mombasa — a total distance of 482km (which has already taken us more than 16 hours to drive ourselves). Being part of the “Northern Corridor”, the road moves more than 50 percent of all goods traded in the East African Community. And to give you an idea of the craziness of the traffic: alone in 2013, more than 3000 people had to die on this road due to traffic accidents. Fortunately, there are also alternatives now: airplanes and, much more environmentally friendly, a brand new train!
Nevertheless, a lot of people of all walks of life do their business or live along this road — a quite colorful spectacle, rich in variety.
Enjoy!
Yours, Seve
PS: I apologise that, because of the moving vehicle, this series of 56 pictures did not always turn out to be 100% sharp — but I thank my brother for adding some film grain to make this a little less obvious.
