Return

When the rainbow fades
when the palms brace for the chill
of a desert night

When the dust settles
When the windmills stop turning
Will the energy
That gave you the power
To say who you are…
Be lost?

In the drive back to the city
The bedlam of Mondays
The cover that protects

Will the pride be more
Than a word for lions

Memories of the love overflowing
The kisses meant in earnest
And experiences unimaginable
Throbbing music
Incessant, unrelenting concussion
Murdering ears, tears of joy
Crying yourself to sleep

Will you return to the parade
The safe place
Where a desert sun
Warms all hearts.
