Odysseus, the main character of the Odyssey really, who tries to battle with the Gods, is trying to go home, but he has to face lots of dangers and wars to go home. The reason why he is a hero is because he sacrificed all of hid men and sons to battle and return home. He did lots of sacrifices to save his men, just like cheating on his wife with a goddess to protect his men and leading his men where to go and also bringing his men to his homeland. Battling the cyclopes Especially, Argo, the great loyal dog, who waited for Odysseus for 20 whole years! Died later he saw his owner. Odysseus battles mystical creatures and faces the wrath of the gods, his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus stave off suitors vying for Penelope’s hand and Ithaca’s throne long enough for Odysseus to return. The story begins ten years after the end of the Trojan War, the subject of the Iliad. All of the Greek heroes except Odysseus have returned home. Odysseus languishes on the remote island Ogygia with the goddess Calypso, who has fallen in love with him and refuses to let him leave. Meanwhile, a mob of suitors is devouring his estate in Ithaca and courting his wife, Penelope, in hopes of taking over his kingdom. His son, Telemachus, an infant when Odysseus left but now a young man, is helpless to stop them. He has resigned himself to the likelihood that his father is dead.

Telemachus then gives an impassioned speech in which he laments the loss of both his father and his father’s home — his mother’s suitors, the sons of Ithaca’s elders, have taken it over. The dutiful Telemachus refuses to throw his mother out and calls upon the gods to punish the suitors. He says that he can only pray that Athena will show Telemachus the kindness that she showed Odysseus. He adds that he has heard that suitors have taken over the prince’s house in Ithaca and that he hopes that Telemachus will achieve the renown in defense of his father that Orestes. That is an example of Odysseus as a hero. His participation in the war, and his journey home... A hero has some type of superhuman ability, such as intelligence, physical strength, or bravery. The end.
