UCA Cheer Competition
This February I attended the UCA Cheer competition. UCA stands for Universal Cheer Association. The competition was hosted in Orlando, Florida.
I was on the Olathe West Cheer Competition team again this year. We started choreography in the summer and practiced the routine every Monday and Wednesday morning at 6 am till it was time to leave for Florida.
The team worked really hard to prepare for this competition and was very excited to attend. Especially since we were staying at one of Disney's hotels. Disney has three hotels (music, movies, and sports). We stayed at Disney's worldwide sports hotel. The place was decorated very well. In between buildings of hotel rooms, there were turf fields with big football helmets the size of the buildings.
Every morning I woke up to the sound of the other team's band music and them yelling their cheers on the turf fields. Our team practiced on the field as well.
We competed at the ESPN world wild sports arena. It was an awesome experience. There were about 50 teams in our division and many more divisions. There were cheerleaders everywhere.
After we competed on the first day they announced the semi-finalists. We made it to day two and were ranked top 25.
That night we went to Magic kingdom. We rode lots of rides and got to see fireworks. Disney was open till 1 am because of the competition.
The next day our performance time was at 8 pm so we had practice. made some changes in our routine, and then headed to Disney Springs to do some shopping. We also had some time to rest.
That night we performed in a bigger arena. I was very proud of how the team competed. Although we did not make it to the finals we still improved our score.
Since we did not make it to finals we spent the last day at Animal Kingdom. I spent four hours in line for just one ride. The parks were so busy.
That same day was the super bowl. The whole team was Chief's fans and were very excited to watch. The coaches bought us pizza and we all went to one hotel room to watch. When we won the team ran a victory lap around the hotel. Another Kansas team joined us in celebration. That night the team decided to go to Hollywood studios to celebrate. We were there till 1 am.
All in all, I made some of the best memories on this trip with all my best friends. It was an awesome experience and I was very happy to be apart of it.
