We won’t wait for the standards”, said Tom Wheeler as FCC chairman in 2016, speaking of the rollout of 5G. These are little things like health standards. No health testing whatsoever of this new technology is envisaged.

In 2000, Tom Wheeler, as president of the wireless industry association, physically evicted the association’s own hired expert on health from the building when Dr George Carlo tried to present findings of increased cancer and genetic damage from mobile phones to industry executives. This recently got reported breathlessly as though it was news, although it’s ancient history for those of us who keep up with Microwave News, which tried to set the record straight on Carlo, who remains a very dodgy character.

Does anyone notice the fastest revolving door in Washington DC? That one at the FCC? It revolves so fast, you can go in behind someone, and emerge in front. It revolves so fast, no journalists in Swamp City can even see it.

Oh, boy, does tech need some kind of regulation. May I give you one piece of advice on this score, as an old campaigner for such: do not hold your breath.
