Thank you for the explanation of the term “politically correct”. However I have a simpler explanation. To a Black person, the politically correct response is an alternative to the use of the long stream of street profanity which the unthinking comment made by another person (not an individual of color) has just made. It usually takes the form of a low voice but mild toned, “I beg your pardon but would you please repeat what you just said?”
