The Defeated Artist

Frustrated right now. This chapter of "The Changing Perspective of Mr. Boxman" - my story featuring a young box man - is no good. At least I think so anyways. And isn't that all that matters? What I think?

...Not really. The response of the people is the most important part on MANY occasions. Well, here's the subjective opinion of one person: Chapter 15 was "meh".

If I were the author, I'd probably be frustrated as hell. Slamming my tight fist into the dining room table; cursing under my breath; scared to death of the possibility that the world will implode, and all of my effort this past year will be for naught all because of one chapter. Or would that be my response?

I wonder how the author is really feeling? I wonder if he's fighting himself, at this very moment, screaming in his head "I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. I'll keep improving!" While wondering simultaneously if he should just quit storytelling all together.

I wonder if he is reminding himself "You're only as good as your last at bat". I wonder if hearing that quote would make him buckle under the weight of his defeat.

"Only as good."

"Only as good."

I see a stranger running up a tall mountain.

"Only as good."

"Only as good."

A professional runner, he just lost the most important race of his career.

"Only as good"

Rain hammers the earth. And the black sky cries with thunder "defeat! Defeat!". The runner continues.

"Only as good!"

Perhaps the author feels like the runner. ...Ah! There he is!

"Sir! Sir!! The newest chapter sucked! What are your thoughts on this?"

Well...first thank you for reading it" he is smiling. "Second" What's that look in his eye? "Second... I wonder about the power that comes with loving defeat. Defeat just means I still have somewhere to go, right?"
