Why Take a Nap

I used to schedule the most important task and a batch of willpower-required work in the morning. By lunch time, my brain would flow like the worst traffic in Delhi.

Most of the time, I would replace lunch with an hour of physical exercises (then eat some light food afterwards). After sweating my mind feels refreshed and ready for the second half of game.

If the situation doesn’t allow (like a meeting right after lunch, bad weather etc.), my best alternative will be taking a nap.

The Power Nap

My definition would be : Not necessarily fall asleep but just close your eyes, deep breathing and try not to think i.e. practice “Nothingness” in your mind. Keep it short and aim at 15–20 minutes only.

Of course sometimes I’ll fall asleep while meditating but I’m not that kind of person who can snooze for an hour in office.

So what are the benefits?

Reduced Fatigue

The machines inside your head overheated after the morning battles. A short nap vents the smoke and let them cool. You’ll find more motivation to return to the battlefield again after the chill.

Reset

Your brain’s loaded with ideas, opinions, expectation bla bla bla after the first half. An effective nap in the mid-day can help consolidate memories, draw connections between things you encountered earlier. It gives you a fresh start and improve job performance for the rest of the day.

Erase and Rewind

The Cardigans’ song huh? The quick shut down eases stress. After restoring your brain to a pure mind, you may forget the anger or negativity you accumulated. The short break lifts up your mood. You may forget the office hostility and give your morning enemy a chance.

Let’s Press the Restart Button

Napping isn’t only for babies. If you want to feel recharged in the afternoon session, instead of gossiping with colleagues or wandering in social media, a nap is all you need.
