Hi Judson,

I agree on the conversations with locals and bartenders. I like eating at the bar when traveling alone; it avoids the awkward “table for 1” and there’s also someone to chat it up with.

Although I’ll say this: as a woman, and particularly at a “certain age” it can be tricky: it’s a fine line to be interested but not appear stalking or looking for more than conversation. I’ve never had a real problem, but some uncomfortable moments. It’s all part of the experience.
