After playing all of the ‘Donut County’ game, I found it to be an interesting and fun game. I used to see videos of the gameplay itself and had no idea there was a story until I played the game myself and now, I can see why the game is successful. The story of raccoons coming into the town and creating so many holes just to collect trash was a hilarious bad guy idea. The art style is unique while being simple in its design for a town and the homes as well as the character designs. Another reason I can understand why the game is successful is because within the first 15 minutes of gameplay, the player can already understand the controls of the game and they’re already given the problem and story of what is happening in the world the player is in unlike other games where it gives clues as the game progresses.

Other reasons as to why the game is enjoyed among players is because while at first glance it is like a game that is for younger audiences, the game is actually for all. Especially when it comes to a game where you have to destroy and consume everything in the area you spawn in. ‘Donut County’ also has different interactions and dialogue between the characters which makes the gameplay more lifelike and enjoyable. The soundtrack in the game is also another reason why players have enjoyed the games, the music is nice to listen to and adds into the environment when fighting the boss at the end of just doing a simple level.

Donut County’ uses a lot of the lenses but one of them is the lens of fun. The game uses the idea of destroying objects and emptying an area as the main mechanic of the game and makes sure the player has fun while doing it, whether it be destroying building or swallowing up characters in the hole and watching them flail at the end of the level. Another lens the game uses is the lens of problem solving where the player has to think of different ways to collect certain items such as setting off the fireworks to blow up the cliff or having to swallow up bombs to explode the final boss. A third lens the game represents is the lens of imagination. The environment in ‘Donut County’ of a simple city with so many characters and different buildings not to mention the character designs inspire imagination in the players to continue the gameplay and enjoy the aesthetics of the game. A fourth lens is the lens of reward because at the end of each level the player gets to see all the things they’ve collected falling down, they gain experience points onto the bar, and as they continue throughout the game, they eventually gain a catapult to use for the rest of the game. The final lens I’ve analyzed is the lens of character. Throughout playing ‘Donut County’, and reading the rest of the story, I got to see the diversity in not only the dialogue built the design of the characters such as including a human and then anthropomorphic animals which makes the game more memorable.
