Learning The Holy Ghost of the Trinity I pray for God’s guidance in writing this blog. This is partly an understanding from the books I have read. With all learning, first and foremost is The Bible. From there, the collection of sermons and other books outlining from the Bible. The sermons I speak of are from other people, YouTube, and other researched sermons.

Just who is The Holy Ghost? The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. The Bible and Lutherans teach that the Bible is the true Word of God. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit. There is only one true God. This God is invisible, holy, eternal, and has all power and wisdom. In the Bible God reveals himself as three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is why he is called “Triune.” These three persons in one God are all God. They are equal in power, glory, and in every other quality. To deny or ignore one person is to deny all of them. Since all three members of the Trinity are God, then worship is due to each of them, collectively and individually, because of the nature of the Trinity. An orthodox understanding of the Trinity entails the acceptance of each Person as fully divine, fully personal, and fully united with one another as one God. The Bible and Lutherans teach that the Holy Spirit is true God equal to God the Father and God the Son. He has names and characteristics which belong only to God. The Holy Spirit creates faith in our hearts through the gospel. He also keeps us in the faith and motivates us to do good. The Holy Spirit’s role is one who intercedes, empowers, answers prayer, and leads/guides.

The Spirit is seen in the New Testament as an intercessor. Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. It points out that it is by the Spirit (and through the Son) that we have access to the Father. Romans 8:15 says, “You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’” Paul explains the role of the Spirit in getting us access to the Father: “For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. . . . He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” The Holy Spirit empowers the believer. In response to prayer, He strengthens us with power in the inner man Ephesians 3:16 I pray that out of the riches of His glory, He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being,. One thing He empowers us to do is pray. “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit.” When we pray in the Spirit, we are being helped by the Spirit to pray. Not only does the Holy Spirit intercede and empower, but He also answers prayer, and may give directives to us in response to prayer. The Holy Spirit is actively involved in our prayer lives, and He gives the guidance and strength that we need. We need His leadership, and we must live and walk by dependence in the Spirit.

I have to be careful in this discussion of the Holy Ghost. Many have other interpretations of the Holy Spirit…. I said in the beginning that I stem from the Bible first and foremost. How else is one able to understand without using the Bible? How the Bible speaks of The Holy Ghost, how God refers to Him, the Apostles talk of Him…. the Bible is inspired through the Holy Spirit. The Athanasian Creed illustrates the Trinity…

There is a LOT to say, but I’m afraid I would be rewriting books if I sorted it all out.

Instead, if a question is asked I will respond to any question about the Holy Spirit/Ghost writing another blog…
