The technique ‘a series of fragments that build a whole’ is used in the film ‘The Clock（2010）’ directed by Christian Marclay. It is a looped 24-hour montage that functions as a clock. Its scenes are selected from cinema and television history, with real-time references to the time of day.The film is constructed out of moments in cinema when time is expressed or when a character interacts with a clock, watch or just a particular time of day.
The keywords of this technique are‘fragments’, ‘build’, and ‘whole’. And I tried to emulate this technique that Christian Marclay used in my work. To make this, I filmed many scenes of people,cars and ferries in Darling Harbour. I kept the unmoving shot for a few seconds of each fragment by using time-lapse photography of my smart phone to speed up all fragments and they built a whole film.It shows the time flowing quickly. I didn’t choose a connection like clock in Christian’s film, but I contrasted the morning with the evening of city in the same place in order to let the audience focus on the differences of day and night of the city’s architecture but not the time. This also make the film more attractive and interesting and I’m trying to show the audience how beauty of the city in both day and night is and the people’s daily life in city.
