Child Trafficking Victims Protection Act

The Gist

This bill deals with the fight against child trafficking by directing the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Summary

The DHS must hire more social and welfare professionals and train all workers who deal with “unaccompanied alien children” more thoroughly. The ORR must work with the DHS and other parties to place and resettle these children more safely and quickly. The U.S. AID must look over and keep track of all programs related to alien children to ensure their safe travel.

Other points of this bill include general protections for these children including information privacy, basic rights and counsel, and the presence of female officers and/or social workers “during the transfer and transport of female detainees.”
