The Juvenile Detention System Is A Factory Farm For Troubled Kids
Aaron Traister

Hi Aaron,

I volunteered nearly every Saturday as a stealth ethics teacher in a junior prison (sentences less than two years) for about 15 years. Last night I watched a German film titled Breathing, which is about a kid in detention for murder, which was really good. And now your article. Juxtaposition!

Clearly we can’t let politics and careers victimize kids — but neither can we allow pathologies to roam at large. It’s up to private citizens to be “our brothers’ keepers.” Coming of age is never easy. It takes a community... You already recognize this. Thanks for doing your part.
