Being the Entire Ocean in a Drop
Hello and happy August to everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the blessings that 2018 has to offer us so far! Today I am going to focus on the Heart and Spirit pillars for a change. Remember, while the Body is an important aspect of our lives, and it is our physical vehicle of expression, it is only 25% of the formula to living a long, healthy, happy, balanced, and harmonious life.
That said, today I am going to wax a bit metaphysical, philosophical, spiritual, and scientific. Did you know that our greatest thinkers in all these subjects are trying to tell us all the same thing? What could it possibly be? What is it between all these very different subjects that its greatest thinkers can find common ground? They debate incessantly, even publicly fight one another, yet if you peel away the layers of rhetoric and pride, you will find they all do agree. This shared truth is both incredibly simple, and at the same time, very deeply profound.
We are all connected, to each other, to our planet, to our universe, but somehow along the way, we have completely forgotten this.
Rumi said it best with this beautiful quote!
“You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop”
I know sounds ridiculous, even impossible. It seems completely beyond our ability to incorporate anything like this into our daily life in any meaningful way. Yet, if you can figure out how to make this shift in your world view, even a small one, I can promise you it will change your life forever. More importantly, it will change the world you live in as well.
So how do we learn to be the “entire ocean in a drop”? How do we come to feel that sense of connection? Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer to that question. At least not an answer for you, or anyone else for that matter… except me. You see no one has the answer for the entirety of humanity, but each of us does, for ourselves. Finding that unique answer, takes time, awareness, and a lot of personal insight. But even though we only have our own answer, it is critically important that we not forget we can share our journey with each other. In sharing, we will help each other move forward to find their own answer.
So, what does this all mean? Is it a waste of our precious time to wrestle with such abstract concepts? Maybe. But let me ask you a question, and I want you to really think about the answer and the implications of the answer in your life and the lives of everyone around you. The question is this:
What if everyone on the planet believed everything is connected, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. What would the world look like compared to today?
Think about it for a moment. How would this simple change completely transform how our world functions. What would it do for the health, happiness, and lives of everyone? What would it do for our environment, and our planet? Can you imagine what a day might look like living in such a world?
I know that we are far from such a place, but we have it in our power to transform ourselves, through that, we can transform our world into anything we wish. To start that journey, we simply need to take a step. One step at a time. First you take it, then get your friends and family to take a step as well. Regardless how far we must travel, the sooner we get started, the sooner we will arrive, and as wonderful as the destination will be, the journey itself will be transformative.
Remember I said there is no quick and easy method that we can all use to shift our mindset, but there are some very useful tools that have been used by many on this path over the centuries. Tools such as meditation, prayer, gratitude, compassion, and unconditional love will help you immensely along the way. Use them all if you can. So, what’s stopping you? Pack all the tools, and let’s take a journey of discovery! Maybe, if we stick to the path long enough, everything we know will change. Come everyone, it’s time to change the world.
