As a leader, you have the responsibility and privilege to walk alongside the youth under your leadership. It is inevitable those youth will have to walk through difficult life situations and circumstances at some point, and you can be there to help guide them where needed. Having the tools to adequately address their needs is key.

That’s why we recommend the newest 4/14 Window online training course, “Counseling Youth in Difficult Circumstances.” This 45-minute micro-course, developed by OneHope and Dr. Dave Keehn of Biola University, focuses on meeting the support needs of youth during difficult times in their lives. The first step to be addressed will be strengthening your leaders’ skills in empathy, which in turn can lead to their ability to clearly identify warning signs. In addition, you and your team will learn strategies that can help each of you become more visible to your students, and available to meet their needs.

Dr. Keehn is a pastor and teacher who has over 30 years in youth ministry and youth discipleship. He has been a youth pastor, even beginning a youth ministry from the ground up. He is passionate about developing and raising up church leaders, and discipling the Millennial generation and their families. He has been a professor for the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University. Through the 4/14 Window

A former student in Dr. Keehn’s youth ministry who is now an adult, once wrote a blog post about what made his youth leader effective. “As a young high schooler, you planted seeds of pastoral ministry in my heart when you taught me how to lead a Bible study so my wrestler friends could meet Jesus and be saved…. My senior year of high school you took me on as a youth ministry intern and, for the next five years, you personally trained me how to do youth ministry well. You taught me to preach. You taught me to administrate. You taught me to lead. You taught me to serve. You taught me to love. You were quick to encourage my victories, lovingly faithful to correct my missteps, and always quick to forgive my sins.”

Do you want to learn how to counsel the youth under your leadership through their highs and lows? Do you want to become a more effective leader and communicator with your youth?
