We are excited to announce that we now have gender diversity ratio information for all the companies in our database. By bringing the “Top Female Hiring Tech Companies” Stack to the public, we hope to ultimately contribute to improving diversity in tech. As a big data company, our job is to make sense of immense amounts of data and present it in a meaningful way. At 500 Miles, we previously enabled members of the community to know the following about a company: the number of new hires and investment rounds in the past year, headcount growth, talent quality, H-1B hiring, salaries offered, and number of employee hires and departures. Today we add gender diversity numbers to the list of insights available in our app.

A few weeks back we published a post about why we believe it’s what you know and how good you are, not where you went/go to school that matters. Ahem, we’d like to add to that: success in the workplace is not hinged upon gender, race or pedigree. It hinges upon an individual candidate’s ability regardless of what they look like or where they come from. While we are all human and will carry biases and prejudices whether we recognize them or not, this is not a valid excuse. By democratizing this data for easy consumption, diversity in tech becomes an actionable metric that cannot be ignored.

It would be super awesome if we motivated all tech companies to push towards being the leader of our “Top Female Hiring Companies” Stack. If half the world is made up of women, companies are only hurting themselves by not improving their gender diversity. A diverse and well-rounded work force is the most capable and innovative in our eyes. Diversity isn’t bullshit; it’s a competitive advantage.
