I’m a Skilled Outdoorswoman, That’s Why I’m Wearing These Shoes

Today we took the train into Edinburgh. Everything in Scotland is closed on Sunday. Or at least very limited in hours. The subway, for example, doesn’t open until 10am. Right on. We got off the train at Waverley, which is close to the Scott Monument. I love all of the red sandstone. And the moss. And the age. Altogether really incredible. We walked to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. I told my mom it was a 15 minute walk… it ended up being closer to 35.

left: building two, right: building one

And it’s raining. Really raining. Downpour. I’m wearing birkenstocks and hiding my tears in the rain. I’m also overreacting. It’s just water. The galleries were really cool. I got to see some Magritte in building two. In building one there was a really cool Nathan Coley exhibit. I saw “Tate Modern on Fire” and it’s sister piece “St. Paul’s.” Both were really incredible scale models with internal galleries on the back, inside.

Then we Uber-ed to Edinburgh castle. Saw it (okay), left. Then we walked down the royal mile. Still raining, still cold, still in Birks. We stopped into a café for lunch (and for reprieve from the monsoon). Once we left Southern Cross Café, it had stopped raining. So we continued to walk down the royal mile, and stopped into a store where I got a pocket book of Bowie wisdom and a tiny, stuffed Highland cow. I still have yet to find something for Mason. I think it’s going to be a University of Glasgow shirt in Gaelic, and some Kinder eggs. We planned on staying all day in Edinburgh, but finished doing everything we wanted around 3pm, and boarded the train back to Glasgow.

Back in Glasgow, it was still pretty early, so we went to the Gallery of Modern Art. Yes, another art museum, I know. But it’s what I like to do so 🤷🏻‍. They had a really cool exhibition that was cancelled. No “cancelled.” I mean, the exhibition was called “cancelled,” and that the exhibition was also presented as having been cancelled. I love contemporary art where you just know at least ten middle-aged men have walked in and said “my toddler could have done that.” Sorry, they couldn’t have. They also had a Warhol soup can. I feel like soup cans are the glue that holds modern art galleries together (I don’t really I just like to find them). Tomorrow, I’m going on a 2,5 hour walking architecture tour of Glasgow, so more Art to follow!

Life. Art. Politics.

this acrobat walks a tightrope between his own reality and the reality of society. this acrobat balances his existence. this acrobat uses physical and mental agility to maintain his own reality.
