She is a mirror, a reflection of the ignorance, insensitivity, and white privilege of a distressingly large segment of our population. We are a nation of immigrants and refugees, driven here by the hatred in Europe and Africa of the “other”: she reflects the fact that certain former oppressed people have now become the oppressors. I acknowledge her role in demonstrating that as a society we have a long way to go.
