Good basketball is bred out of competition.

WARRIOR fans are not disappointed. What fans care about is whether their team is doing everything it can to win championships. For over a quarter century the Dubs vacillated between mediocre and (Barkley voice) turrible: between 1976 and 2013 they won as many as 50 games exactly twice. Now, at long last, they have owners and a front office that cares about winning. If other teams don’t keep up, don’t blame Durant or G.S.

The NBA has always had super teams, from Mikan’s Lakers to Russell’s Celtics to Doc’s 76ers to Magic’s Lakers/Bird’s Celtics to Jordan’s Bulls to LeBron and the Heatles. Fans flocked to the games to see Basketball played at its highest level, and/or to root against the “super” teams. The current gnashing of teeth and rending of garments is excessive: the narrative could just as easily be “a jump shooting team just added another jump shooter, so what?”

As for OKC, it’s not Durant’s job, or the NBA’s job, to make sure the franchise continues to be competitive. Instead of feeling sorry for the Thunder, how about a little more of “y’all didn’t handle yo’ bidness?”
