Row, Row, Row Your Boat!!

White Water Rafting in Moab, Utah!!

The day began at 6:45 AM. We road for 90 minutes (in a bus that was clearly used for prison transfers in a prior life) with a family from Sweden and a family from Arkansas. Guess who was easier to understand through their accent? I digress.

As we were floating down the Colorado River, our first highpoint was spotting two Balled Eagles. While I suspect they were real, at the time I wondered if they were placed there by the white water rafting company. (You can take the marketing guy out of SF, but…I digress.)

After about 90 minutes of build-up about the death traps that await us downstream, it was time for lunch. (My kind of rafting trip!!) The standard river rafting fare was served—make your own deli sandwiches, potato chips, Safeway deli counter sweet macaroni salad, chocolate chip cookies and soda. YUM!!

At the lunch spot, we did see fresh bear tracks (see pic at bottom). Again, I think they were real. After lunch, we got back on the river for the action we Jews had been waiting for. And the river did not disappoint. We got soaked! Leo, Ian, Max and Julian were screaming as we banged and crashed our way through the rapids.

Once we got through the white water, we all dove into the fridged river and floated until we could no longer feel our you-know-whats!! At about 2:30 pm, we reached the “put out” and returned to the bus for our 90 minute ride back to Moab. The boys found a spot to watch the American’s vs some foreign country in soccer and then we hit the road for a 5 hr drive to the campground.

Another great day for the wondering jews!!
