Synthesise: A philosophy for the future
This is the moment of truth for human civilisation
For the first time in history, we are approaching an existential moment of truth.
Our civilisation has never been more advanced, yet it has never felt more fragile.
Everywhere we see symptoms of a system that is either already broken or clearly unsustainable, lacking the right foundation of ideas.
Meanwhile, converging technological revolutions are transforming our world beyond recognition, at incredible speed:
AI, robotics, mixed-reality, blockchain, biotech, brain-computer interface…
These revolutions could be the last chapter in our history, or they could elevate us to new heights.
It all depends upon how well we can Synthesise.
We are missing some fundamental principles
The problems we face are complex, but the root cause is not: we have not properly grasped the principles needed to run human civilisation well.
We have built our world around narrow, domain-specific thinking; we lack understanding about the inherent interconnectedness of things. So things fall apart.
To get ourselves back on the right track, we must Synthesise.
We must connect and combine things we have seen as separate.
We must overcome the limitations of the existing model.
We must overcome polarisation.
We must forge a new path into the future.
Synthesise — the project
The Synthesise project is a journey, not a destination.
It is a community of action, working together to:
- Build a strong network/community
- Develop the philosophy and the aesthetic
- Pioneer new forms of human-machine collaboration and distributed organisation
- Generate a self-sustaining, participatory cultural movement
- Steer humanity onto the right path
What does that mean in practice?
A. Connecting people
- 📣 Spreading the word about this project
- 🤝 Connecting people and networks already pulling in this direction
B. Philosophy and creativity
- 📜 Collaborating to distill a set of principles; ultimately, a holistic philosophy
- 🎨 Producing creative work (writing, art, music, video…) to package and transmit these principles for a wider audience
- ⚡️Building buzz and momentum around these creative works
C. Building the infrastructure
- 📡 Developing channels to share the creative output
- 💸 Building a mission-driven organisation with a sustainable and equitable revenue model
- 🦾 Harnessing emerging technologies to help us accomplish all of the above
A call to action!
- We are facing a metacrisis of such magnitude that it threatens our entire civilisation
- We need to correct our course before it’s too late
- To be in with a fighting chance, those of us who recognise this must join forces — there is more that unites us than divides us
- We must spread the message beyond the echo chamber — to do this we need to embrace creativity, popular culture and emerging technology
