Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is a very famous 70’s band probably one of the most popular at the time. You’ve most likely heard ELO from “Mr. Blue Sky” their most famous song. If you’ve heard it more recently you might have thought it was from around our generation as ELO seemed to be quite a bit ahead of their time. They used synthesizers a lot, also using voice modifiers to make them sound more spectral, really emphasizing their voice. ELO is primarily a British rock band but they really have something special. Something about their band makes you extremely happy, there is almost no way to be sad while listening to most of their songs. I bet you’ve heard it before but here is “Mr. Blue Sky”:

Their other songs being quite popular songs like “Don’t Bring Me Down” or even “Evil Woman”. They’ve had a successful record in both the UK and the US all through the ’70s with “more combined UK and US Top 40 hits than any other band in the world”. They’ve actually never hit number 1 in the US surprisingly but, they have had multiple platinum and golds with a string of 9 golds in a row. You would expect a band this big and so successful to get at least one number 1 US hit song. They certainly have very unique music. If you ever do listen to them then I would suggest the “Out of the Blue” album because every song in that album is amazing and has variety, sad songs, happy songs, and breakup songs. Some other popular albums are “Discovery” and “A New World Record” which are superb.

Jeff Lynne

Jeff Lynne their singer and composer is a musical genius and that’s not an exaggeration he knows exactly where to put everything and how to make people love their songs. The whole point to ELO is in the name, it’s electrical rock and also an orchestra. Jeff Lynne is able to put orchestra instruments and electric rock instruments together to make fantastic songs. You would’ve never thought that those two would even come close to being good in a song together but he makes it work somehow. John Lennon (Beatles Member / Solo Artist) went on to call them “Son of Beatles” which is very fitting I think. They’re overall a fantastic band and something I listen to on the daily due to ELO being my favorite band of all time. I hope you share the same love for them as I do.
