Wikiplomacy and Brexit

Communication technology alone is not enough to bring societies together

I am at the early stages of organising a meetup about wikiplomacy. It is a way of creating good relations between nations by involving large numbers of people interacting in a non-hierarchical way, in contrast to the standard hierarchical interactions between a small number of diplomats from both countries.

Almost as soon as I started thinking about this, and before the Brexit vote, I realised that there was often a bigger disconnect within nations than between them. We need something akin to wikiplomacy to keep a dialogue going between all parts of society. the Brexit vote has highlighted the need for such a dialogue in the UK, but many events around the world demonstrate a disconnect between the haves and the have nots. The need for inclusion has never been greater.

If you would like to come to a meeting on wikiplomacy and brexit, or to help organise one, then please get in touch.
