What Does The Data-Driven Utility Look Like?

Colin, I started following Slalom on Linkedin and stumbled across this article. As someone that moves in government utility circles (read as water/wastewater treatment), I found your article fascinating. There’s no shortage of data found in our industry between flow meter data, SCADA controls data for treatment plants and lift stations, service delivery KPI’s, etc. I would agree that we should be focused more on cultivating a relationship with our data as it almost seems organic (could it take on a life of its own?). I fear that in the government utility sector we view data analytics much more like a vending machine transaction (what would the Snickers of analytics be?) poking at some cold lifeless cluster of data expecting a black and white answer.
