Sorry Folks, Twitter Still Matters.

The New Yorker recently marked the demise or rather the end of twitter in a post last week. With recent moves by important Twitter VP’s to Instagram and Google, users and businesses have become increasingly concerned with the fate of the popular social media channel. When it comes to online marketing strategies, many have already looked away from Twitter, arguing a lack of ROI and have begun investing ad dollars and valuable time on other platforms.

But twitter isn’t dead yet.

In fact, there’s more reason to stay up to date than ever. There’s plenty to expect now that former co-founder Jack Dorsey is back in office. Just this week, Twitter unveiled its newest update to the service. Unlike any other social media channel, Twitter is acknowledging a large base of fans that want to stay in the know without being logged in. Across the globe, users can now know about Donald Trump’s response to the Iowa caucus (hint: it’s been pretty quiet) or the latest celebrity feud without signing on. What’s the significance? The same social platform that was responsible for informing the world of the political crisis in Egypt, Bin Laden’s Death, and so much more is connecting the world once again.

So what does this mean for business owners?

Plenty. Over the past few months, many have forgotten the value of tweets and there is so much to be said, really. Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey hinted at a new character limit for twitter earlier this year that could change the way we interact online. Sure, celebrity blunders can turn into outright spectacles but the opportunities for business are endless. Imagine the evolution of customer service. Automated tweets with phone numbers and e-mail addresses will be no more. Complaints can turn into immediate solutions with happy customers. Longer limits mean more possibilities for business owners and online marketers.

Often overlooked, is also Twitter’s link to Google. Research your company’s name and you will find your latest tweet. Not tweeting? That’s a missed opportunity.

Here’s a picture:

Twitter is still helping your business with SEO and keeping your customers informed with the latest news, promotions, and events. To really leverage the power of Twitter, you’re going to have to go back to basics. Twitter pros are going to have to become editorial masters that excel in building relationships. Buying followers and spewing out tweets are not going to cut it. Stellar content and reliable responses to consumers are what’s really going to count moving forward. While social channels like Instagram are excelling with likes and comments, we’re not really seeing brands engage with their customers as much as they should. It seems like there is still a place for that on Twitter.

Speculation aside, while Dorsey and the Twitter team pave a new way for Twitter, it still continues to be a resource for brands, businesses, news, and activism.

Twitter still matters.
