Goddess of Vegetation (especially grain)
  • Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, she is also called the daughter of Zeus and Styx
  • Her name is based off of “to bring” or “cause death”

→ Wife of Hades

The Family Tree (reference)

* She was involved with a story that is basically of Hades, she was abducted by Hades against her will. She is simply described as the wife (lover) of Hades.

→ Persephone was carried off by Hades, supposedly, when she was picking flowers with Artemis and Athena… Demeter did not allow Persephone to go under or even near the underworld…

  • When Demeter discovered of her daughter’s abduction, Demeter had stormed to Zeus and demanded for him to bring back Kore (or Persephone) → Hades did just that… but…
  • Although Hades did oblige, he asked Persephone to eat a pomegranate kernel, which basically set Persephone up to — it set an agreement for her to stay in the underworld for ONE THIRD of a year in the underworld [with Hades] and the remaining above with the gods
  • With that being said — when Kore was absent, many had claimed to be the Goddess of Vegetation, whenever Persephone had returned from the underworld many had considered this as a symbol of immortality

→ Persephone was considered an all-pervading goddess of nature [whom creates and also destroys things]
