Rather Be

Verse 1

Wanna leave, wanna go it alone,
Outside this childhood house I still call home,
And all the eyes in the world can see,
Living in an hour-glass ain’t no place to be,

Pre-chorus 1

So while I’m wasting time, sipping wine, painting pictures in my mind,
About where I wanna go,
The mountains are calling, concrete jungles are found,
But I’ve always been homeward bound,

Chorus

I’m just tryna be,
Somewhere I’d rather be,
Moving on, moving out, moving forward and back, in a maze of my construction,
And everybody’s got two cents on my self-production,
But I’m feeling further away from me,
From somewhere I’d rather be,

Verse 2

Like a bird without wings,
I’m can’t fly, I can only sing,
Dreams tethered to my bed,
I’d rather be inside my head,

Pre-chorus 2

So while I’m wasting time, feeling fine, leaving memories far behind,
To get where I wanna go,
Hurdles aplenty, I can’t get jump high enough,
Oceans of options, but the water’s rough,

Chorus

I’m just tryna be,
Somewhere I’d rather be,
Moving on, moving out, moving forward and back, in a maze of my construction,
And everybody’s got two cents on my self-production,
But I’m feeling further away from me,
From somewhere I’d rather be,

Bridge

I’m just tryna be,
Somewhere I’d rather be,
Oh, someone I’d rather be,
Somewhere else,

Chorus

I’m just tryna be,
Somewhere I’d rather be,
Moving on, moving out, moving forward and back, in a maze of my construction,
And everybody’s got two cents on my self-production,
But I’m feeling further away from me,
From somewhere I’d rather be,

Somewhere I’d rather be.

I wrote this song in the early hours of this morning when I couldn’t sleep. It’s not great and I only have the chords half-set in my mind but it’s the first song I’ve finished in a while so I’m posting. I fall trap to many songwriting cliches here but I’m pleased with some of the couplets. I think I’m going to try and work on it so my next few posts on here will be the revisions and edits I make to it and hopefully, eventually, a final version.

Thanks for sticking around for my Week of Words (+1 day) challenge-attempt :)
