When someone gets a notification that you like their photo, they don’t read it as “@johnerikthinks likes your photo”. They read: “I am important. I matter. Someone noticed me.”

I tend to disagree with this statement. A simple like can be seen as passing in the hallway with a nod of the head versus a spoken hello (comment.) The hello requires more effort thus “I am worth the extra effort.”
