Ahmed’s article makes the case that creating a more just and sustainable human civilization is possible, based on the probable evolution of technology and energy economics. The reasoning is sound and rooted in evidence.

Axiom 1: The economic model of fossil fuels is becoming increasingly cannibalistic.

Axiom 2: Consumers are shifting away from fossil fuels with or without government incentives.

Axiom 3: The technological and economic efficiency of clean energy is rapidly advancing, independently of oil prices and policy incentives.

In addition to the fact that the installed capacity of solar has been steadily doubling since the 70’s, there are also continually increasing gains in energy distribution and user efficiency, as well as in other renewable sources of new energy like wind, wave, tidal, geothermal and others. Gains and innovations are happening in batteries and other storage, such as liquid salts in big tanks. The breakthoughs being reported daily on kurzweilai.net are amazing. The West’s economic models are not properly accounting for the Law of Accelerating Returns
