Iconic Actor Carl Weathers Passes Away at 76: Renowned for Roles in ‘Rocky,’ ‘Predator,’ ‘Happy Gilmore,’ ‘The Mandalorian,’ and Beyond

Renowned Actor Carl Weathers, best known for portraying Apollo Creed in the first Four Rocky Films and featuring in Predator, The Mandalorian, Happy Gilmore, Action Jackson, Arrested Development, and numerous other film and TV productions, passes away at 76.

The family of Carl Weathers shared the heartbreaking news of his demise, stating, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He peacefully departed in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. Carl was an extraordinary individual who led a remarkable life. His impact on film, television, the arts, and sports is immeasurable, leaving an enduring legacy recognized globally and spanning generations. He was a cherished brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

“A true great man,” Sandler wrote today on X. “Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always. Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him. Love to his entire family and Carl will always be known as a true legend.”

Robert Rodriguez, who directed episodes of the show featuring Weathers paid tribute today. “Will miss the great Carl Weathers who I was very fortunate to work with on several occasions,” he wrote. “A very kind and generous person. His performances were always electrifying and he was also a terrific director of both stage and screen.”
