“As one amongst the 125 crore Indians, what is my contribution in the past one year to build a new INDIA?” — Independence Day Special

This independence day let’s free ourselves from the ‘I’ that is holding us back from working together as ‘WE as a nation’. And to do this we need to ask ourselves one simple question….

As we celebrate our 70th Independence Day, let’s get back to the basic and the single most important component of a family, community, society or a country, which is, an ‘individual’ or an ‘I’. It is ‘I’ that constitutes ‘We’ and it is up to the understanding and the sensibilities of an ‘I’ if he/she really wants to stand with others as ‘WE’ and contribute in building a society or a nation.

So if ‘I’ am the DNA of a Nation, then why am I always blaming others for the all the wrongs happening in my country. Why the ‘I’ in us is always pointing the fingers at everyone but oneself.

This independence day let’s free ourselves from the ‘I’ that is holding us back from working together as ‘WE as a nation’. And to do this we need to ask one simple question, i.e:

As one amongst the 125 crore Indians, what is my contribution in the past one year to build a new INDIA?

An honest answer to this question will lead us to two situations:

  1. It will make us feel proud of ourselves for fulfilling our responsibilities towards our nation and will give us the sense of achievement.
  2. It will make us realise of our responsibilities that we have been shying away from.

And this sense of responsibility will make us feel accountable for all our actions. And here nobody but WE, ourselves will be holding the ‘I’ in us accountable even if nobody catches us or blame us.

Since we feel responsible and accountable, when any problem arises, instead of blaming others we will start asking these four specific questions:

  • What is the problem?
  • What am I doing — or not doing — to contribute to the problem?
  • What will I do differently to help solve the problem?
  • How will I be accountable for the result?

This will change our attitudes towards the problems that our country is facing. We will become a solution rather than someone who is always blaming others.

Believe me you, if 125 crore Indians start working in this direction nothing can stop India from being the India we have dreamt about — A new India, an empowered India.

Happy Independence Day.

Vande Mataram!!

Jai Hind!! Jai Bharat!!
