Will I Ever Be Able To Afford To Live Alone?

Living alone was always my goal in NY and I achieved it 2 years ago, after 3 years in the city. Would I have a lot more disposable income if I had a roommate? Yes. But the ability to decorate my space as I see fit, throw dinner parties without having to work around someone else’s schedule, to clean and have it stay that way, and to come home and close the door behind me with the knowledge that it will not open again until I open it is worth it to me. Those factors make it worth the extra cost. THAT SAID, I get really ticked off when people talk about living alone as a function of anything else besides funding. “Oh I live alone because I just couldn’t handle roommates.” No, you live alone because you can afford it.
