I agree with a lot of what you said, but remember, Kim Basinger’s character Elizabeth *does* stand up for herself and leaves an unhealthy relationship. That’s why I could never write off the film. Read Roger Ebert’s review of the film from 1986. He was correct when he said, “At the end of “9 1/2 Weeks” there is an argument, not for sexual liberation, but for sexual responsibility.”

And that is what E.L. James should be held accountable for.
